Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to maximize the peaceful applications of nuclear technology.
This partnership aims to benefit both Pakistan and the global community. The statement was made during a meeting with IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi at the Prime Minister’s House.
Discussions focused on the use of nuclear technology in various sectors, including cancer treatment, agriculture, food preservation, water resource management, and industry, as per the Prime Minister’s Office Media Wing.
The prime minister commended the IAEA for its role in promoting nuclear energy as a solution to climate change and reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to leveraging nuclear technology for sustainable development.
Shehbaz Sharif emphasized that Pakistan, as a founding member of the IAEA, has maintained a strong collaboration with the agency for decades. He acknowledged the progress achieved in nuclear power generation, industrial advancements, healthcare, and agriculture, facilitated by IAEA’s support, which has significantly contributed to the country’s socio-economic growth.
Director General Grossi appreciated Pakistan’s longstanding and productive engagement with the IAEA and assured that the agency would continue its cooperative efforts with Pakistan.
