Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar has expressed Pakistan’s support for the Arab League’s proposal to rebuild Gaza, which has been devastated by conflict, under the future administration of the Palestinian Authority.
Speaking at an extraordinary session of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers in Jeddah, Dar reiterated Pakistan’s steadfast commitment to the Palestinian cause and endorsed the Arab League’s initiative. He emphasized that reconstruction efforts must be paired with an immediate cessation of Israel’s aggression and strict adherence to international laws.
During the emergency meeting on Friday, the OIC, comprising 57 member states, supported the Arab League’s counter-proposal to US President Donald Trump’s contentious plan, which had suggested taking control of Gaza and relocating its residents. The OIC’s decision aligns with the Arab League’s endorsement of an Egyptian-led initiative during a summit in Cairo.
The alternative plan, now referred to as the “Arab-Islamic plan,” seeks to rebuild Gaza under the governance of the Palestinian Authority, supported by a newly established trust fund. Arab leaders have called on the international community, including the European Union, Russia, China, and Japan, to back this proposal.
Pakistan’s endorsement underscores its continued advocacy for Palestinian rights and its commitment to a peaceful resolution in the region. The initiative aims to restore stability and infrastructure in Gaza while ensuring Palestinian self-governance and international cooperation.
