Pakistan dismissed rumors about the annexation of the Wakhan Corridor, affirming that it remains part of Afghanistan. In a statement on Thursday, Foreign Office Spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan addressed the speculative claims, emphasizing that Afghanistan is a neighboring country and Pakistan recognizes its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Khan reiterated that there is no intention or desire for territorial expansion by Pakistan. He also highlighted the issue of terrorist sanctuaries in Afghanistan, which continues to be a point of contention between the two nations. Both Pakistan and Afghanistan are working through ongoing diplomatic engagement to address these concerns.
The spokesperson also condemned recent racist and Islamophobic remarks in the UK that unfairly link the actions of a few individuals to the entire British-Pakistani community. He rejected India’s claims over Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, reaffirming that Jammu and Kashmir is an internationally recognized disputed territory.
Additionally, Khan discussed the recent international conference on girls’ education held in Islamabad, which was attended by key figures from various Islamic countries. The conference’s Islamabad Declaration emphasized girls’ education as a fundamental right, aligning with Islamic principles and international goals to empower women and promote peace.
