Pakistan and Afghanistan Promise to Boost Cooperation and Regional Peace

Pakistan’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, Ambassador Mohammad Sadiq, met with Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Mutaqqi in Kabul on Tuesday to discuss improving cooperation between the two countries.

Relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan had been tense due to border clashes and Pakistan’s complaints about Afghanistan harboring the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), which Pakistan accuses of using Afghan soil for attacks. However, recent meetings between officials from both countries suggest a shift towards better diplomacy.

Ambassador Sadiq shared on social media that they agreed to work together to strengthen cooperation and promote regional peace. He also met with Afghan Interior Minister Sirajuddin Haqqani, and both sides agreed to improve relations in various areas.

Earlier this month, Pakistan reappointed Ambassador Sadiq to continue his role as the Special Representative to Afghanistan, a move that followed reports of the Afghan Taliban relocating TTP members away from the border to reduce tensions.

Pakistan’s Foreign Office emphasized that these talks reflect Pakistan’s commitment to resolving issues through dialogue, particularly concerning counterterrorism efforts.
