Oscar Winner Hans Zimmer to Reimagine Saudi National Anthem

Oscar-winning composer Hans Zimmer is set to reinterpret the Saudi national anthem and explore other potential projects celebrating Saudi culture and heritage, according to Turki Al Sheikh, chairman of the General Entertainment Authority.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Al Sheikh praised Zimmer as “one of the greatest musicians of the modern age” and shared that discussions had focused on various initiatives, including a composition called Arabia, inspired by Saudi traditions.

Zimmer, who has been nominated for the Oscar 12 times and won twice for The Lion King and Dune, was also invited to create the score for an upcoming Saudi film, The Battle of Yarmouk.

Plans are also in the works for Zimmer to perform a large-scale concert during a future Riyadh Season, the kingdom’s annual winter festival that features international music performances, sports events, and cultural exhibitions.

Al Sheikh highlighted Zimmer’s admiration for Saudi Arabia and its people, noting that the composer expressed a desire to visit again with his family.

Zimmer, who recently performed at Dubai Opera with the Limitless Orchestra, has long been inspired by the Middle East’s impact on the arts. In an interview with The National last year, he discussed the importance of cultural fusion in film, reflecting on how early cinema was shaped by European immigrants and refugees, and how today’s global collaboration continues to enrich the industry.

Zimmer’s upcoming projects align with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, which emphasizes the growth of the arts, entertainment, and cultural exchanges.
