Onijah Robbins Returns Home

KARACHI:Security and health officials breathed a sigh of relief as Onijah Andrew Robbins, a 35-year-old American woman who had been undergoing psychiatric treatment at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), was deemed fit for travel and discharged on Friday evening.

Following her release, an all-female police squad escorted her to the Women Police Station before she was taken to Jinnah International Airport and boarded a flight back to the United States.

Earlier, hospital authorities had confirmed that her travel arrangements, including necessary documentation and an air ticket, were awaiting finalization by the US Consulate General in Karachi. Once all formalities were completed, she was cleared for departure.

JPMC officials had been in continuous coordination with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and US diplomatic representatives to facilitate her return.

Robbins had arrived in Karachi to meet a young man she had developed a romantic connection with online. However, after being abandoned by him, she was admitted to JPMC’s Psychiatry Ward a week ago. Following initial medical assessments and psychiatric evaluations, she was placed in the Special Care Unit. On February 3, doctors diagnosed her with bipolar disorder.
