Security forces have killed nine terrorists and arrested two others in two separate operations in North Waziristan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. These intelligence-based operations (IBOs) took place on January 11 in the Dosalli and Esham areas. In Dosalli, six terrorists were killed, and two were captured. Meanwhile, in Esham, three terrorists were neutralized after a fierce exchange of gunfire, with two additional terrorists wounded.
Weapons and ammunition were recovered from the terrorists, who had been involved in several attacks on security forces and civilian targets. Security operations continue in the region to eliminate any remaining terrorist threats.
The rise in violent attacks in Pakistan since the Taliban’s return to power in Afghanistan in 2021 has contributed to a surge in terrorism, especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. According to the CRSS Annual Security Report 2024, the year saw a record number of fatalities, with 685 deaths of security forces, including both military and civilian casualties. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa suffered the most significant losses, with 1,616 fatalities.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari both praised the security forces for their successful operations. Sharif reiterated the commitment to continue the fight against terrorism, while Zardari emphasized national unity in the ongoing efforts to eradicate terrorism from the country.
