Netflix has revealed that the highly anticipated final season of Squid Game will premiere on June 27. The South Korean survival drama, which became a global sensation in 2021, will conclude its gripping storyline with this season.
A teaser shown at Netflix’s “Next on Netflix” event teased another intense sequence from within the deadly competition, raising fans’ excitement.
Created by Hwang Dong-hyuk, Squid Game follows Seong Gi-hun, played by Lee Jung-jae, as he fights to end the brutal game that exploits people in dire financial situations. In the final season, Gi-hun is determined to put an end to the dystopian games once and for all.
The first season of Squid Game broke streaming records, with 142 million households tuning in during its debut month, making it Netflix’s most-watched original show at the time. The show’s success contributed to Netflix’s subscriber growth, with the company adding a record 19 million new subscribers in the fourth quarter of 2024, reaching a global total of nearly 302 million.
Aside from Squid Game, Netflix also showcased exciting new projects, including Guillermo del Toro’s adaptation of Frankenstein, Ben Affleck’s crime thriller RIP, and John Mulaney’s live late-night show. Tina Fey will also adapt Alan Alda’s 1981 romantic comedy The Four Seasons into a series.
