Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi officially took over as President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) on Thursday, succeeding Shammi Silva, who had served as the President of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC). The announcement was made by the regional cricket body in a statement.

Naqvi expressed his honor at being appointed to such a prestigious role. “It is a great privilege to take on the presidency of the Asian Cricket Council,” he remarked. “Asia is the heart of world cricket, and I look forward to collaborating with all member boards to further the game’s growth and influence on a global scale.”

He added, “Together, we will create new opportunities, encourage greater cooperation, and elevate Asian cricket to new heights.”

Naqvi also took a moment to thank the outgoing ACC president for his contributions during his tenure.

In a reflection on his time as president, Silva noted the significant progress achieved under the ACC’s leadership. “It has been an honor to serve as the President of the Asian Cricket Council. The unwavering support from our member boards has played a crucial role in enhancing the ACC’s profile throughout the region,” he said.

Naqvi, who is also serving as Pakistan’s Interior Minister, has been at the helm of the PCB since February 2024.

The ACC’s official statement welcomed Naqvi’s appointment, highlighting his visionary approach, which focuses on unity, innovation, and strategic growth. The statement emphasized that under Naqvi’s leadership, the ACC aims to strengthen Asia’s position as the center of world cricket, with a focus on youth engagement, development programs, and increasing the global recognition of Asian cricket.
