Mindy Kaling Backs Meghan Markle Amid Criticism of Netflix Show

Mindy Kaling recently opened up about the online buzz surrounding her appearance on Meghan Markle’s new Netflix series, *With Love, Meghan*. The 45-year-old creator of *The Sex Lives of College Girls* addressed the controversy during an episode of *The View*, where she discussed the social media frenzy over a moment in which Markle corrected her about her last name.

“I’ve noticed that whenever I’m involved in something related to Meghan, it seems to blow up and become a huge deal,” Kaling remarked, referring to the intense online scrutiny of their interaction. She clarified that the moment, in which Markle explained she now goes by “Sussex” instead of “Markle,” was blown out of proportion on social media. “People zoom in on my face in TikTok videos and make it seem like I had some big reaction, but honestly, I didn’t even remember it happening.”

Despite the online chatter, Kaling had nothing but positive things to say about Markle and her show. “I really enjoyed my time with Meghan,” she shared, adding, “Let her promote her show—I’m here to talk about *Running Point*!”

Co-hosts Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar also weighed in on the discussion, noting that Markle often “triggers people” and that “people seem to love hating her.” Sunny Hostin, on the other hand, praised the Netflix series, calling it “beautifully crafted and inspiring.”

In *With Love, Meghan*, Markle recently shared that she decided to stop using her maiden name and adopt “Sussex” to align with her children’s surname.
