Mexico Warns of Legal Action Against Google

MEXICO CITY:Mexico has issued a warning to Google over its decision to rename the Gulf of Mexico as the “Gulf of America” on Maps for U.S. users, aligning with an executive order signed by President Donald Trump.

President Claudia Sheinbaum addressed the issue during her morning press briefing, stating, “We currently have a dispute with Google. If necessary, we are prepared to take legal action.”

Following his inauguration on January 20, Trump issued executive orders renaming the Gulf of Mexico and restoring the name of North America’s highest peak, Denali, back to Mount McKinley.

In response, Sheinbaum humorously suggested renaming the United States as “Mexican America,” referencing historical maps from before 1848 when a significant portion of Mexico’s territory was annexed by the U.S.
