Mexican Influencer Valeria Márquez Killed During TikTok Live, Sparked Outrage Over Femicide in Jalisco

On May 13, 2025, 23-year-old Valeria Márquez — a well-known Mexican social media personality and businesswoman — was tragically gunned down while streaming live on TikTok from her beauty salon, Blossom the Beauty Lounge, located in Zapopan, Jalisco.

The incident took place at approximately 6:30 p.m. local time. According to the Jalisco State Attorney General’s Office, an unidentified man entered the salon, asked specifically for Márquez, confirmed her identity, and then shot her multiple times in the chest and head before fleeing on a motorcycle. A friend who was present during the attack ended the livestream.

Earlier that same day, Márquez had voiced concerns on her social media platforms about receiving disturbing messages and unsolicited packages. She had expressed fear for her safety and hinted at plans to step away from her salon due to growing anxiety.

Originally hailing from Guadalajara, Márquez built a substantial following online, with more than 90,000 fans on TikTok and over 73,000 on Instagram. She shared beauty advice, lifestyle content, and light-hearted videos, gaining additional recognition after winning the Miss Rostro title in 2021. Aside from her digital fame, she was an active entrepreneur who managed and promoted her beauty lounge.

Her untimely death has sparked widespread grief and outrage online, with fans, fellow influencers, and human rights advocates demanding justice. The tragedy has renewed focus on the persistent issue of gender-based violence in Mexico. Under Mexican law, femicide refers to the killing of a woman specifically due to her gender — a classification that authorities are now applying in this case.

The Jalisco Attorney General’s Office has initiated a femicide investigation. As of now, no arrests have been made and the motive behind the crime remains under investigation. Authorities are continuing to gather evidence and witness statements to identify the shooter.
