Marvin Gaye III Faces Lawsuit Over Alleged Assault and Threats
Marvin Gaye III, son of the iconic singer Marvin Gaye, is facing a lawsuit that accuses him of assault, battery, false imprisonment, and other serious charges. The lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles on December 26, 2024, details an alleged incident from January 2023 involving the accuser, referred to as Jane Doe, who was called to Gaye’s home to mediate a conflict between him and his then-wife, Wendy.
According to the lawsuit, the situation quickly turned violent as Gaye, 59, allegedly grabbed the accuser’s arms, shook her, and stepped on her foot. The confrontation escalated when Gaye reportedly retrieved a firearm, pointed it at both Jane Doe and his wife, and threatened to kill them. The accuser claims that Gaye then confined her to a guestroom, preventing her from leaving, and continued making threats. She also accuses Gaye of tampering with her car by cutting the brakes and having his associates monitor her home.
The accuser states that she has suffered severe emotional distress as a result of Gayeβs alleged actions, including anxiety, depression, panic attacks, insomnia, and significant weight loss. She claims that she now lives in constant fear for her safety and requires security at family events. Jane Doe is seeking unspecified damages, legal fees, and a restraining order to prevent further contact or harassment from Gaye.
In response, Gaye denied the allegations, calling them “false” and stating that he was unaware of the lawsuit. He accused the accuser of attempting to extort money from him.
This is not the first legal issue for Gaye. In January 2023, around the same time as the alleged incident, he was arrested on charges of domestic violence and assault with a deadly weapon. His then-wife, Wendy, filed for a temporary restraining order, accusing Gaye of using a handgun to threaten and injure her. Gaye filed for divorce shortly after his arrest.
Gaye, the adopted son of Marvin Gaye and Anna Gordy, has faced public criticism in the past. His biological mother is Denise Gordy, Annaβs niece.
