Manchester United Face Striker Battle as Competition Heats Up for Hugo Ekitike

Manchester United Battle Rivals for Hugo Ekitike Amid Striker Search

Manchester United are actively pursuing Hugo Ekitike as they look to reinforce their attacking lineup, but they face stiff competition from Newcastle United and several top European clubs interested in the Eintracht Frankfurt striker.

The Red Devils have been monitoring the 22-year-old closely throughout the season, considering him a potential addition in the upcoming summer transfer window. However, securing his signature won’t be easy, as Frankfurt is expected to demand a hefty transfer fee, especially after Omar Marmoush’s high-profile move to Manchester City in January.

United’s Striker Hunt

Former chief scout Mick Brown previously hinted that United were prioritizing a new striker, raising concerns about the long-term roles of Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee at the club. Meanwhile, Newcastle, long-time admirers of Ekitike, had a £30 million bid accepted by Stade de Reims in 2022, but the forward ultimately chose to join Paris Saint-Germain instead.

Frankfurt’s Position on Ekitike

Frankfurt remains keen to keep Ekitike beyond this season but acknowledges that interest in the young forward is rising. His recent hat-trick for France’s U21 team against England has only fueled further attention from Premier League scouts. With multiple clubs tracking his progress, Frankfurt is expected to set a premium asking price and resist negotiations that might undervalue their star striker.

United’s Transfer Plans

In addition to Ekitike, Manchester United have been linked with several other forwards, including Harry Kane, Viktor Gyökeres, and Jean-Philippe Mateta, as they aim to reshape their attack. Reports suggest the club is open to selling Rasmus Højlund, with a valuation of £50 million placed on the Danish international. However, the asking price has reportedly deterred potential buyers, leading them to explore alternative options.

With the summer transfer window fast approaching, United are expected to make significant moves to secure a top-tier striker for the future.
