Macaulay Culkin and Brenda Song Share Unlikely Start to Their Love Story
Macaulay Culkin and Brenda Song, now one of Hollywood’s most low-key power couples, didn’t hit it off at first sight.
Engaged since 2022 and parents to two young sons—Dakota, 3, and Carson, 2—the couple opened up about their relationship in a January 27 interview with Cosmopolitan. Reflecting on their early interactions, they revealed their first meeting occurred at a gathering hosted by their mutual friend, Seth Green.
Song, 36, admitted she wasn’t charmed by Culkin’s initial humor. “He was trying to joke about my show being canceled, and I wasn’t having it,” she said, referencing the abrupt end of her sitcom Dads. Culkin, 44, added, “She was thoroughly unimpressed by me, that’s for sure.”
The two reconnected three years later while working on Green’s movie Changeland. During the project, they bonded over card games and a shared love for the name Dakota. For Culkin, the name was especially meaningful, as it was a tribute to his late sister, who tragically passed away in 2008 at the age of 29.
What began as a casual connection deepened over time. Song revealed that her perspective of Culkin shifted as she got to know him. “I saw this public persona he had—it was like armor to protect himself. But beneath that, I glimpsed someone incredibly sensitive, intelligent, and artistic,” she said.
Culkin expressed similar feelings, explaining that his love for Song felt profoundly unique. “I’d never experienced this before. I believed in her, not just in a superficial way, but to my core. She broke through my defenses,” he shared.
What started as an unremarkable first impression has since blossomed into a loving partnership, grounded in understanding and mutual admiration.
