Kate Cassidy, the girlfriend of the late Liam Payne from One Direction, has spoken out about his unexpected passing, expressing that she never imagined he would die at such a young age.
In an exclusive interview with The Sun, the 25-year-old influencer referred to his death as a “tragic accident.” Payne, 31, died in October 2024 after falling from the balcony of his hotel room in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Toxicology reports later indicated the presence of alcohol, cocaine, and a prescription antidepressant in his system, with the official cause of death being ruled as “polytrauma,” meaning multiple traumatic injuries.
Cassidy, who had been in a relationship with Payne since 2022, revealed that she had left Argentina to return to their Florida home to take care of their dog, Nala, never anticipating such a tragedy. “Liam was in such a good headspace when I left,” she said, adding, “If I had known what would happen, I would never have left Argentina.”
After his death, Cassidy paid tribute to Payne, calling him “the love of my life” and sharing a handwritten note from him that hinted at their plans to marry within the year.
The couple had met in 2022 when Cassidy was working as a waitress in South Carolina. Cassidy admitted that she still struggles to come to terms with his death, often calling his phone just to hear his voicemail. “I think about Liam every second of every day,” she shared, emphasizing how hard it is to live without him.
