Netflix’s recent announcement about the upcoming show Building the Band, which features Liam Payne in his final on-screen appearance, has left the singer’s family in shock. The show is scheduled to air in late 2025, and Liam filmed his part alongside AJ McLean of the Backstreet Boys, Destiny’s Child’s Kelly Rowland, and Nicole Scherzinger of the Pussycat Dolls, just months before his tragic passing.
Initially, Netflix reached out to Liam’s family to seek their blessing for the project. However, a source revealed to The Sun that the family had not given final approval for the showβs release. While they understood the tribute aspect and Liam’s legacy, discussions about the show were still ongoing, and they were surprised by the sudden announcement.
This news comes after reports in December that discussions were still taking place with Liamβs family. Netflix had also stated there would be no immediate announcements, only to reveal the show unexpectedly.
Liam Payne tragically passed away at the age of 31 on October 16 after falling from a hotel balcony in Argentina. He had been a guest judge on Building the Band, a show aimed at finding talented singers and forming new music groups based on compatibility.
