Three individuals, including Liam Payne’s friend and two hotel employees, have been cleared of any charges related to the singer’s tragic passing.
However, prosecutors have stated they are still “evaluating appeals” following the decision, according to The Mirror.
As reported by Rolling Stone and the BBC last week, Argentina’s National Criminal and Correctional Court dismissed the manslaughter charges against Roger Nores, a close friend of the former One Direction member, as well as hotel staff members Gilda Martin and Esteban Grassi.
Expressing relief after the ruling, Nores told Rolling Stone, “Glad this is finally over. I’m happy I can now travel to the UK and properly say goodbye to my friend.”
Martin and Grassi had faced allegations of negligence in their roles as hotel security and staff, with claims that they failed to act when Payne, reportedly intoxicated, was escorted to his room. However, the court ruled that there was no evidence of reckless misconduct on their part.
Meanwhile, two other individuals remain in custody, accused of supplying drugs to Payne. They are awaiting trial.
The 31-year-old singer passed away on October 16, 2024, in Buenos Aires after falling from a balcony at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel. His cause of death was determined to be “polytrauma” due to multiple injuries sustained in the fall.
