KP Govt Spokesperson Pledges to Ensure Peace ‘At All Costs’ Following Kurram DC Attack

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government spokesperson Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif stated on Sunday that peace in Kurram will be ensured “at all costs,” following the shooting incident that injured Deputy Commissioner (DC) Javedullah Mehsud on Saturday. Mehsud was attacked by unknown assailants while traveling in a convoy near Bagan.

Earlier this week, the KP government announced that both warring factions in Kurram had signed a peace agreement, following weeks of efforts to broker a ceasefire amidst escalating violence. The clashes, primarily due to long-standing land disputes, have led to over 130 fatalities since November and significant shortages of food and medicine caused by ongoing road blockages.

While protests continued in Kurram, with a sit-in held at Manduri by the Bagan tribes, the KP government emphasized its commitment to peace. Barrister Saif labeled the attack on Mehsud as a “failed conspiracy” to disrupt the peace process. He called on locals to support the government’s efforts in maintaining peace and stability in the region.

The attack was strongly condemned by senior government leaders, including the president and prime minister. The chief minister has ordered a thorough investigation into the incident, and the aid convoy carrying essential supplies has been temporarily halted, pending clearance to resume its delivery.
