King Charles Takes Major Step in U.S. Relations

King Charles III is reportedly considering a strategic move to strengthen ties with former U.S. President Donald Trump amid ongoing geopolitical tensions involving the U.S. and Canada. According to a recent report, the 76-year-old monarch is preparing to offer the United States associate membership in the Commonwealth during Trump’s upcoming state visit to the U.K.

The proposal, which was initially discussed during Trump’s first presidential term, has reportedly been revived. British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer is said to have extended an invitation from King Charles to Trump during his visit to the White House last month.

The monarch’s decision to deepen his relationship with Trump comes after the former president expressed admiration for the royal family, describing King Charles as a “wonderful man” and stating it would be an “honour” to visit the U.K.

This bold move, described as an effort to “bring the USA into the Commonwealth,” has sparked significant interest. A member of the Royal Commonwealth Society revealed that plans for the U.S. to become an associate member are “being discussed at the highest levels.”

The source told *The Mail*, “It would be a wonderful move that would symbolize Britain’s close relationship with the U.S.” They added, “Donald Trump loves Britain and has great respect for the Royal Family, so we believe he would see the benefits of this.”

Notably, America’s declaration of independence from Britain in 1776 would not prevent it from joining the Commonwealth as its 57th member. The Commonwealth, one of the world’s oldest political associations, traces its origins to the British Empire and includes nations with a combined population exceeding 2.7 billion. The most recent members—Mozambique, Rwanda, Togo, and Gabon—have no historical ties to the British Empire, demonstrating the organization’s evolving nature.

This potential development highlights King Charles III’s efforts to modernize and expand the Commonwealth’s influence while fostering stronger diplomatic ties with the U.S.
