Kendrick Lamar Reflects on Expectations Ahead of Super Bowl Halftime Show
Kendrick Lamar, the acclaimed American rapper who made history at the 2025 Grammy Awards, recently shared his thoughts on the challenges of reflecting on the past.
At 37, Lamar is preparing for his highly anticipated Super Bowl halftime performance this Sunday in New Orleans. While discussing his approach to the 13-minute set, he revealed that he intends to focus on his more recent music.
Speaking at a pre-game press conference hosted by Apple Music, the Grammy-winning artist opened up about his mindset, stating, “It’s a fascinating experience because it really gives you perspective on how you view your musical journey.”
“For me, being present is everything. I find it difficult to dwell on the past,” he admitted.
The Not Like Us rapper elaborated, explaining that while he deeply respects his past work, he prefers to embrace the energy of the present. “That’s the essence of Los Angeles for me—staying in the moment, channeling the energy I feel right now. That’s what I want to bring to New Orleans and share with the world,” he said.
“This is who I am—Kendrick Lamar at 37.”
Meanwhile, R&B superstar Usher, who has also headlined the Super Bowl halftime show, advised Lamar to fully embrace and savor the experience of performing on such a grand stage.
