Karla Sofía Gascón Praises Conan O’Brien as Oscars 2025 Host

Karla Sofía Gascón responded to a playful remark made by Oscars 2025 host Conan O’Brien after he referenced her in his opening monologue. The Emilia Pérez star made her thoughts known on social media following the prestigious event.

The Best Actress nominee took to Instagram on Monday morning, sharing her reflections on the ceremony while making a lighthearted nod to O’Brien.

“Thank you to the Academy members for the Best Actress nomination and for the invitation to the gala. I truly enjoyed it—very entertaining and fun. Especially its incredible host, Jimmy Kimmel, who increasingly resembles the great Conan O’Brien,” Gascón wrote in Spanish.

Her comment humorously referenced O’Brien’s joke from his opening speech, in which he had addressed Gascón directly, saying, “Karla, if you’re going to tweet about the Oscars, just remember, my name is Jimmy Kimmel.”

In her post, Gascón also expressed gratitude for reconnecting with her colleagues and extended congratulations to her fellow Emilia Pérez team members who won awards.

“Loved embracing so many friends and colleagues at this event. Congratulations to all the winners, especially [Zoe Saldaña] and [Camille],” she added.

O’Brien, known for his sharp wit, didn’t hold back from addressing the controversies surrounding the night’s attendees. During his monologue, he made a pointed joke about past social media posts made by Gascón, which resurfaced during awards season, sparking backlash.

“Fun fact: Anora uses the F-word 479 times. That’s three more than the record set by Karla Sofía Gascón’s publicist,” O’Brien quipped, drawing laughter from the audience.

Gascón’s Oscar journey was marked by intense scrutiny. After receiving her nomination, old social media posts emerged in which she was accused of making racially insensitive and Islamophobic comments, as well as critical remarks regarding diversity in the film industry. The controversy led Netflix and her film’s PR team to initially withdraw their financial backing for her awards season appearances. However, the decision was later reversed, allowing her to attend the Academy Awards—though she notably opted to skip the red carpet.

Despite the turbulence surrounding her nomination, Gascón’s presence at the Oscars remains a significant moment in her career, generating both discussion and admiration within the industry.
