Karla Sofía Gascón addresses Selena Gomez feud, says she’s ‘learning’.

Karla Sofía Gascón has publicly addressed the backlash over her past posts on X (formerly Twitter), which included comments about her Emilia Pérez co-star Selena Gomez. In a heartfelt Instagram post on February 1, the 52-year-old actress apologized, asking for forgiveness and defending herself against critics who she believes are spreading falsehoods.

Previously, Gascón had apologized for certain controversial posts, which she later deleted. These posts touched on topics like diversity, Muslim culture, and George Floyd. In her Instagram message, Gascón stated, “THEY ALREADY WON,” and expressed her regret for any harm caused by her words. She admitted that while her message was intended to convey a specific point, her choice of words had inadvertently led to misunderstanding.

“I have many things to learn in this world,” she wrote, acknowledging that her biggest flaw was how she expressed herself. She continued, “Life has taught me something I never wanted to learn: No matter how much my message is my message, without using the proper words, [the message] can convert into another.”

Alongside her post, she shared a Nichiren Buddhist symbol, which she practices, and the phrase, “As with Emilia Pérez: We can all do better. Me too.”

Reflecting on her rapid rise to fame, Gascón stated that her voice now carries great responsibility, as it represents not just her, but those who feel inspired by her. She mentioned the challenges of having gone from a normal life to being at the top of her profession in just six months.

The post also seemed to address her 2022 post about Selena Gomez, in which Gascón referred to Gomez as a “rich rat” and made derogatory comments about her alleged issues with Hailey Bieber. Gascón denied accusations that she insulted her colleagues, stating that people had misinterpreted her words and intentions.

“I wrote things to glorify as if they were criticisms, jokes as if they were reality, words that without context only seem like hate,” she added, concluding that the criticism against her was intended to bring her down.
