Karachi Issues Traffic Plan for New Year’s Eve

Karachi Unveils Traffic and Security Plan for New Year’s Eve

The Karachi Traffic Police have announced a comprehensive traffic management plan for New Year’s Eve, aiming to ensure public safety and ease congestion. Key roads leading to Sea View will be closed from December 31 to January 1, 2025, in anticipation of large crowds visiting popular spots like Clifton, Bagh Ibn-e-Qasim, and Sea View.

Security Measures

Heightened security will be in place across Karachi, with Section 144 imposed for two days, prohibiting the carrying of arms, aerial firing, and use of firecrackers. These measures address concerns over celebratory gunfire, which has caused injuries and fatalities in past years.

Guidelines for DHA Residents

Residents of Defence Housing Authority (DHA) are advised to use alternative routes and present original identity cards for smooth travel.

Road Closures

The following roads will remain closed:

  • PIDC Chowk (Ziauddin Road) to Ziauddin Bridge towards Lucky Signal
  • PIDC Chowk to Club Road
  • Bilawal Chowrangi to Bahria Underpass
  • Do Talwar to Abdullah Shah Ghazi Shrine
  • Abdullah Shah Ghazi Shrine to 26th Street

Alternative Routes

  1. From Korangi, Sunset Boulevard, Gizri: Use Korangi Road, Sunset Boulevard, Gizri Bridge, Saudi Signal, Khayaban-e-Shamshir, and McDonald’s Sea View road.
  2. From North Nazimabad, Gulberg, Liaquatabad, etc.: Take M.A. Jinnah Road, Garden Road, Zaibun Nisa Street, Awari Light Signal, Sindh Club Chowk, Teen Talwar, Zam Zam Boulevard, and McDonald’s Sea View road.
  3. From Gadap, Bin Qasim, Landhi, Shah Faisal, etc.: Travel via Sharea Faisal, Sindh Club Chowk, Teen Talwar, Race Course Signal, Chaudhry Khalid-uz-Zaman Road, Gizri Bridge, Saudi Signal, Khayaban-e-Shamshir, and McDonald’s Sea View road.
  4. From Mai Kolachi and Boat Basin: Use Jinnah Bridge, Bilawal House Chowrangi, Marine Road (Hyperstar), and McDonald’s Sea View road.

Note: Heavy traffic on Mauripur Road, including tankers and trucks, will be diverted to Hub River Road and Sharea Pakistan.

Parking and Restrictions

Parking is prohibited on major roads including Sharea Faisal, Abdullah Haroon Road, Dr. Ziauddin Ahmed Road, Mai Kolachi Road, Korangi Road, and MT Khan Road.

Strict action will be taken against vehicles and motorcycles without silencers and reckless drivers.

These measures aim to ensure smooth traffic flow and public safety during the New Year’s celebrations, a time that often sees chaos and overcrowding on Karachi’s streets.
