Karachi Endures 38.1°C Heatwave; PMD Warns of Rising Temperatures

KARACHI: The metropolis endured extreme heat on Tuesday as temperatures soared to 38.1°C, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

The hot and dry conditions are expected to persist over the next 24 hours, with temperatures ranging between 37°C and 39°C. Humidity was recorded at 53%, with light northern winds, though sea breezes are anticipated to return by the afternoon.

Chief Meteorologist Muhammad Afzal previously forecasted a significant temperature rise across the country in the coming months. He noted that urban areas, including Karachi, would be particularly affected by the urban heat island effect, worsening drought conditions.

Afzal warned that temperatures nationwide could remain 2°C to 3°C above normal, while Karachi’s daytime temperatures may rise by 3°C to 4°C above usual levels, increasing discomfort for residents.

The PMD has advised the public to stay hydrated, minimize outdoor exposure, and conserve water to mitigate the impact of the escalating heat.
