Kabul must take concrete action against TTP, double standards won’t work: PM

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called on the Afghan government to adopt a firm policy against the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), stressing that double standards will no longer be tolerated.

During a Federal Cabinet meeting, the Prime Minister highlighted Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to combat terrorism, citing recent incidents where security personnel were targeted. He referenced the tragic loss of 16 Frontier Corps (FC) personnel, as well as a Pakistani army major who died during operations in North Waziristan.

Sharif emphasized Pakistan’s desire to strengthen ties with Afghanistan, particularly in trade and economic cooperation. However, he expressed grave concerns over the TTP’s continued operations from Afghan soil, resulting in the deaths of innocent Pakistanis.

The Prime Minister made it clear that the Afghan government must take decisive action against the TTP, asserting that Pakistan could no longer tolerate Afghan territory being used for cross-border attacks. “This is a red line for us,” he stated, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to defending its territorial integrity at all costs.

Sharif called for a consistent, firm stance from Afghanistan on the issue, stressing that contradictory policies would not be acceptable. “You cannot say one thing and do another,” he warned.

In addition, Prime Minister Sharif paid tribute to former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto on the anniversary of her martyrdom, recognizing her immense contributions to Pakistan’s democracy and her efforts in signing the Charter of Democracy.

The Prime Minister also addressed the shortage of medical supplies in Parachinar, revealing that 1,000 kilograms of medicines had been sent via helicopter and that the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) had helped transfer patients to Islamabad for treatment.

On the economic front, Sharif announced that the national treasury is expected to receive a Rs70 billion boost this year, a positive development aimed at stabilizing Pakistan’s economy.

Sharif also shared that Pakistan will soon host the ICC Champions Trophy, a major event that has generated excitement among cricket fans. He assured that all preparations for the event were on track and expressed confidence that the Pakistani team would make the nation proud.

The Prime Minister reaffirmed his commitment to addressing domestic challenges, while ensuring the country’s security, prosperity, and international relations remain a priority.
