K-P Police Advise Maulana Fazlur Rehman to Restrict Movement Due to Security Threats
DI KHAN:
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police have issued a security warning to Maulana Fazlur Rehman, leader of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F), urging him to take extra precautions and limit his movements due to a potential threat on his life.
In a letter sent to Fazl, the Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in Dera Ismail Khan highlighted intelligence suggesting that terrorists from the group Fitna-Al-Khwarij (FAK) were planning to target the JUI-F chief because of his involvement in religious and political activities.
According to the police advisory, the threat involves armed hitmen tasked with carrying out the plan discreetly.
The advisory also referenced recent attacks on JUI-F leaders in Bajaur and warned of the growing risk to Fazlβs safety. It urged the politician to strengthen his security arrangements at home and minimize travel, emphasizing caution when meeting unfamiliar individuals.
In response to the security warning, JUI-F spokesperson Aslam Ghauri criticized the provincial government for spreading fear rather than providing proper protection. He accused the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government of overreacting following the success of a recent peace Jirga in Peshawar. Ghauri called for clarity on what measures the authorities had put in place to safeguard Fazl.
Ghauri also suggested that if the government was unable to fulfill its responsibility for security, it should admit its failure. He assured that JUI-F members are fully capable of defending their leader and would thwart any attempts to create division between the partyβs leadership and its supporters.
He reminded the government of its duty to protect all citizens, including Maulana Fazlur Rehman, and cautioned against misinterpreting JUI-F’s peaceful approach as a sign of weakness. Ghauri demanded that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government ensure the safety of the entire JUI-F leadership.
