Johnny Depp is reportedly preparing to return to the iconic role of Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean 6, a character that helped make him a global superstar. Over the course of five films, Deppβs portrayal contributed to the Pirates franchise grossing over $4.5 billion at the box office.
Following a contentious legal dispute with his ex-wife Amber Heard, Disney distanced itself from Depp, ending a long-term professional relationship. However, rumors now suggest that the actor is set for a major comeback in the next Pirates installment.
According to DisInsider, filming is set to begin at a Hollywood soundstage, though no official confirmation has been made about Depp’s involvement. Jerry Bruckheimer, the producer of the franchise, recently mentioned that two scripts are in development, with screenwriter Jeff Nathanson working on one of them. Bruckheimer hinted that they are still uncertain about which script will be selected. At one point, Disney had even considered a Pirates reboot featuring Margot Robbie, but it seems Deppβs return could be in the works.
