Jennifer Lopez made a triumphant return to her career with her role in the musical Kiss of the Spider Woman, marking the realization of a lifelong dream.
At the premiere of the film at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival, the 55-year-old actress was visibly emotional after the movie received a standing ovation. “I’ve been waiting for this moment my whole life,” she shared.
Reflecting on her journey, J.Lo explained, “The reason I wanted to be in this business was because my mom would sit me in front of the TV, and we’d watch West Side Story on Thanksgiving every year. I was mesmerized, and I knew I wanted to do that. It’s always been my goal, and today I’m living it. This crowd made my dream come true!”
Lopez also paid tribute to the musical’s creators, mentioning Chita Rivera, Fred Ebb, and Terrence McNally for their contributions in adapting the novel to the stage.
This career milestone follows the finalization of Lopez’s divorce from Ben Affleck, which she filed for in August 2024. Despite the split, sources report that the two ex-spouses maintain a respectful and friendly relationship. “It’s a hopeful sign they managed to part ways without animosity, and they both want to preserve their friendship,” the source added.
