Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck’s divorce has been officially finalized, as confirmed by court documents obtained by PEOPLE. The decision came 20 weeks after Lopez filed for divorce on August 20, 2024, citing irreconcilable differences.
The couple, who reignited their romance in 2021, married in a small Las Vegas ceremony in July 2022, followed by a larger celebration in Georgia the following month. Lopez’s filing came exactly two years after their Georgia wedding, with April 26 listed as their separation date. The divorce has garnered significant attention due to their status as Hollywood powerhouses and their popularity with fans.
Lopez filed for divorce without legal representation in the Los Angeles County Superior Court. She requested no spousal support for either party, stated that shared assets and responsibilities would be determined at a later date, and asked to revert to her original name, Jennifer Lynn Lopez.
Rumors of marital issues began in May 2024 when Lopez and Affleck were seen less frequently together. Lopez promoted her movie Atlas and attended the Met Gala alone, while Affleck focused on filming The Accountant 2 in Los Angeles. Despite occasional family gatherings and joint public appearances, the couple spent much of the summer apart. Sources close to Lopez revealed that while she initially hoped to resolve their issues, the marriage ultimately ended.
Lopez has since expressed that she is content with her independence, stating that she is “capable of joy all by myself.” She made her first public appearance post-divorce at the Toronto International Film Festival, while Affleck continues his work on production projects. Despite the divorce, the two appear to maintain a cordial relationship, especially considering they both have children from previous marriages.
