Jennifer Aniston, widely admired for her fitness, opened up about her ongoing struggles with sleep during an interview with Allure. The 55-year-old actress shared that she has had difficulty sleeping for more than a decade.
“Sleep and I have a real hard relationship,” Aniston confessed, adding that she has long tried to improve it but has faced challenges, especially in the past 10-15 years. While she didn’t officially diagnose herself with insomnia, she acknowledged that her sleep often suffers due to excessive smartphone use, which keeps her mind active at night.
“It’s just hard to shut the brain down,” she explained. “I’ve had to shut the news off. I’ve had to give myself boundaries with information.” She described how modern technology and the constant flow of information have made it harder to unwind before bed, in contrast to simpler times when information was limited to a few sources.
Aniston also reflected on the impact of today’s information overload. “Our bodies, our brains are not designed to take in this much information,” she said, recalling a time when people would only turn on the news at 6 p.m. and read the newspaper in the morning, which allowed for a less anxious and more peaceful lifestyle.
To improve her sleep, Aniston outlined her evening routine, which includes turning off her phone and preparing for bed two hours before midnight. “I stretch before bed. I’ve been really trying to work on my sleep hygiene, and I hate those words,” she admitted, emphasizing the importance of setting boundaries and allowing herself to relax despite the challenges.
Despite her best efforts, Aniston stressed the importance of being kind to herself when sleep remains elusive.
