‘James Bond’ Star Warns New Creators Could Risk Franchise’s Originality

Timothy Dalton Expresses Concern Over James Bond Franchise’s Future

Former James Bond actor Timothy Dalton has shared his concerns following the transfer of creative control of the iconic franchise to MGM Amazon Studios.

Recently, longtime producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson announced their departure from the series, officially handing over its rights to Amazon. This shift has sparked concern among fans, and Dalton has now weighed in on the matter.

In an interview, the 78-year-old actor emphasized the significance of the franchise, stating, “It is one of the few wonderful stories in cinema that is distinctly British. The lead character is British, and we can proudly call it our own.”

Dalton expressed his admiration for the creative direction Barbara Broccoli had maintained over the years. He acknowledged that having grown up with the series, he is uncertain about Amazon’s vision for its future.

“I have no idea what Amazon will do with it or how their relationship with the Broccolis will unfold,” he said.

Speaking to the Daily Telegraph, the License to Kill star added, “James Bond is a damn fine series of movies. We all grew up watching it—it has been a part of our lives. So, anything that threatens its originality is a bit disheartening.”

The James Bond franchise has remained under the Broccoli family’s stewardship since the release of Dr. No in 1962.
