On Friday, the Israeli Security and Political Cabinet gave the green light to a ceasefire agreement and a prisoner swap deal with Hamas, despite some opposition within the government.
The Cabinet, consisting of 11 ministers, is expected to formally approve the deal later in the day. According to a statement from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office, the Ministerial Committee for National Security Affairs concluded that the proposed plan aligns with the objectives of the ongoing war and addresses political, security, and humanitarian concerns.
However, three ministers—Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, and Regional Cooperation Minister David Amsalem—reportedly opposed the agreement, according to Israeli Army Radio.
