JERUSALEM:
On Sunday, the Palestinian health ministry reported the death of a 73-year-old man, who was shot by Israeli soldiers in the West Bank. This follows a series of deadly airstrikes carried out in the region the day before.
According to the Palestinian health ministry, the fatal shooting occurred in a refugee camp near the city. Witnesses described a heavy Israeli military presence around the towns of Tubas and Tamun, situated southeast of Jenin. An AFP journalist on the ground observed Israeli forces blocking the exits of the nearby Faraa refugee camp and conducting house raids, with drones flying overhead.
The Israeli army confirmed that a “tactical group” had initiated operations around Tamun, reportedly uncovering weapons. The army further stated it was expanding its counterterrorism efforts to five villages. In a move to inform local residents, the army distributed leaflets in Arabic, claiming the operation aimed to eliminate “armed criminals, the lackeys of Iran.”
