Iran Accuses Jailed British Couple of Espionage

Iran has formally charged British nationals Craig and Lindsay Foreman with espionage after their arrest last month. The judiciary stated that the couple, who were traveling as tourists, are accused of gathering intelligence while in Iran, particularly in the southeastern Kerman province.

According to judiciary spokesman Asghar Jahangir, the Foremans were apprehended by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps on espionage charges. The couple is suspected of collecting information from multiple provinces and working with foreign intelligence services linked to hostile Western countries.

Investigations are still ongoing, with Kerman’s chief justice confirming that the Foremans’ connection to foreign intelligence agencies has been substantiated.

The Foremans, both in their early 50s, were reportedly on a global motorcycle journey when they entered Iran from Armenia in December, heading toward Australia. The British Foreign Office has been providing consular assistance and is in contact with Iranian officials regarding the couple’s detention.

This case adds to a long list of European nationals being held in Iran, where prisoner exchanges with Western nations have been common in recent years.
