During a recent appearance on a Ramazan transmission show hosted by Rabia Anam and Danish Taimoor, the couple opened up about their linguistic preferences for Kabir. Rabia Anam commended Yasir and Iqra for their choice, noting how many parents today find it challenging to keep their children connected to Urdu. Yasir explained their family’s commitment to speaking Urdu at home, stating, “We primarily speak Urdu at home.”
He shared an anecdote about someone on a film set expressing surprise that Kabir spoke Urdu, suggesting that English should be the priority since Urdu could be learned later. Yasir, however, firmly believes that a strong foundation in Urdu is crucial, and other languages, such as English, can be picked up at any stage of life.
Iqra added to the conversation, explaining, “Our schools are English-medium, which means children learn English from school and their peers. In fact, sometimes Kabir comes home from school using English words that we haven’t even taught him.” Rabia agreed, highlighting how children from affluent backgrounds often struggle with Urdu, preferring to communicate in English instead.
