NEW DELHI:
An Indian committee, set up after a foiled plot to assassinate a Sikh separatist in the United States, has called for swift “legal action,” according to a statement from New Delhi on Wednesday. The incident, which occurred in 2023, significantly strained relations between the two countries.
While India’s response to the case marked a stark contrast to its firm stance against similar accusations from Canada, the committeeβs findings have prompted the government to push for rapid legal proceedings. “The committee has submitted its report to the government, recommending legal action against an individual,” the Information Ministry said, stressing the importance of ensuring that justice is delivered promptly.
The committee, formed in 2023, was tasked with investigating the activities of organized crime groups, terrorist organizations, and other entities that pose security threats to both India and the United States. However, the statement did not directly mention the murder plot, nor did it identify the individual involved or their nationality.
