Imran Gives Green Light for Talks to Proceed

PTI-Government Talks Progress After Imran Khan Greenlights Written Demands

The political deadlock between PTI and the government showed signs of resolution on Wednesday, as Imran Khan, the incarcerated leader of PTI, authorized the submission of the party’s demands in writing, paving the way for the continuation of talks and alleviating the political tension.

The primary obstacle to negotiations had been PTI’s reluctance to provide a written list of demands, with party leaders frustrated by the government’s insistence on this technicality. While PTI had earlier maintained that verbal requests made during previous meetings should suffice, they ultimately agreed to formalize their demands in writing after a meeting between PTI’s negotiating team and Imran Khan at Adiala Jail.

The delay in talks had been attributed to PTI’s inability to present a written charter of demands and its leaders’ struggle to meet with their jailed chairman. The party had claimed that the jail administration was hindering their access to Imran Khan, linking the submission of demands to the meeting.

Following the long-awaited session, PTI’s delegation, which included Barrister Gohar Ali, Ali Zafar, and Sher Afzal Marwat, met Imran Khan in the Adiala Jail courtroom, clearing up the uncertainty surrounding the talks.

After the meeting, Barrister Gohar Ali Khan announced that the party would now submit its two primary demands in writing. He stated, “Although we didn’t see the need for this, Khan sahab has given us the green light to formalize our demands in writing to avoid further delays.”

Regarding accusations that the negotiations were aimed at securing a “deal,” Gohar denied such claims, emphasizing that the purpose of the talks was to benefit the country and that they were not part of a broader political deal.

In response to comments made by Imran Khan’s sister, Aleema Khan, about offers allegedly extended through Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, Gohar dismissed the significance of these claims, asserting that PTI had not acted upon any such proposals during its discussions with the government.
