Imran Abbas Criticizes Society’s Obsession with Celebrity Gossip Over Pressing Issues

Actor and model Imran Abbas recently took to Facebook to voice his frustration over what he perceives as society’s misplaced priorities—focusing on celebrity gossip while ignoring critical national issues. In a now-deleted post, Abbas delivered a sharp critique of the public’s tendency to fixate on trivial matters rather than addressing systemic injustices.

Abbas began his post by lamenting, *”Once the people of this country stop obsessing over celebrities, dissecting their imperfections, creating memes, giving interviews to bloggers about their personal lives, or criticizing their fashion choices—they might finally realize what’s truly happening around them, what has already happened, and what lies ahead.”*

He highlighted society’s collective apathy, pointing out that despite daily news of distressing events, many choose silence or divert their frustrations toward irrelevant negativity. *”Every day brings heartbreaking news, yet we remain mute. When we lack the courage to speak up when it matters, all that pent-up frustration spills into trivial outlets,”* he wrote.

Using a striking analogy, Abbas compared the situation to a house on fire while the occupants worry about their neighbor’s burnt food. *”If your entire home is engulfed in flames, but you’re more concerned about what’s cooking next door—then there’s no hope left,”* he stated, emphasizing how misplaced priorities accelerate societal decline. He sarcastically invited critics to prove his point by flooding his page with negative comments, adding, *”Keep chanting ‘Hum Zinda Qoum Hain’ while ignoring reality.”*

A Call for Meaningful Engagement

Though the initial post was removed, Abbas later shared a more composed follow-up, urging people to shift their focus toward substantive issues. *”It’s unfortunate that, as a nation, we fail to recognize our core societal problems—where we should be raising our voices instead of standing as passive spectators,”* he wrote.

He expressed dismay over the public’s fascination with celebrities’ personal lives, relationships, and fashion, calling it a wasteful distraction. *”Rather than addressing urgent societal concerns, we exhaust our energy dissecting celebrities’ outfits, performances, and love lives. Daily, we invest in negativity instead of activism,”* he remarked.

Abbas stressed the dangers of silence during critical times, warning that indifference could have dire consequences. *”At this pivotal moment, when voices should rise in dissent, there’s an eerie silence,”* he said, urging people to redirect their attention to issues that truly matter.

His remarks come amid ongoing controversies surrounding Ramazan transmissions, where celebrities and hosts have faced backlash for insensitive comments. Abbas’s critique serves as a wake-up call, challenging society to rethink its priorities and engage more constructively with national challenges.
