Illegal Water Hydrant Shut Down in Karachi’s Korangi

The Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) and the police have shut down an illegal water hydrant in Chakara Goth, Korangi, and arrested one suspect, Nauman. The action was taken after complaints about severe water shortages in the city.

The hydrant, located in Korangi Number One, was operated illegally, and Nauman was involved in the illegal water trade. Three other suspects—Rafiq, Abdullah Korijo, and Ahmed—escaped, and efforts are underway to capture them. A case has been filed against the arrested suspect and the others.

The water crisis in Karachi has worsened recently, causing protests across the city. On Saturday, Jamaat-e-Islami party members protested at 15 locations, and some protesters wasted water by opening tanker valves in the NIPA and Hassan Square areas. They expressed frustration over the ongoing water shortage and illegal water operations.

Earlier this week, repairs on Karachi’s 84-inch water line, which had been broken for 17 days, were completed, restoring water supply. The damage to the pipeline, caused by construction work on the Red Line project, resulted in a loss of over 4 billion gallons of water, severely affecting the city’s water supply.
