Ibrahim Zadran Sets ICC Champions Trophy Record with Sensational 177
Afghanistan’s Ibrahim Zadran etched his name in history with a remarkable knock of 177 off 146 deliveries against England in Lahore, setting a new record for the highest individual score in ICC Champions Trophy history.
His innings surpassed the previous record of 165, set just days earlier by England’s Ben Duckett in the same tournament.
Zadran’s masterclass, featuring 12 fours and six sixes at a strike rate of 121.23, propelled Afghanistan to a commanding 323/6 in 49.1 overs. His crucial innings provided stability after an early collapse, following the dismissals of Rahmanullah Gurbaz (6), Sediqullah Atal (4), and Rahmat Shah (4).
Forming a vital 129-run stand with captain Hashmatullah Shahidi (40), Zadran set the foundation before accelerating in the final overs. He was well-supported by Azmatullah Omarzai (41 off 31) and Mohammad Nabi (40* off 23). His innings ended in the last over, falling to Liam Livingstone with Jofra Archer taking the catch.
Zadran’s record-breaking knock now ranks above legendary performances in Champions Trophy history, surpassing innings such as Nathan Astle’s 145* in 2004 and Sachin Tendulkar’s 141 in 1998.
With a formidable total on the scoreboard, Afghanistan now turns to its bowlers in pursuit of a historic victory.
