Twitch streamer and political commentator HasanAbi (Hasan Piker) has addressed his recent suspension from the platform, responding to the backlash over his comments regarding Medicare fraud.
In a statement, he acknowledged his word choice, stating, “I’ll be more careful with my phrasing next time.”
“If Mike Johnson is truly concerned about Medicare fraud—considering his plan to slash $800 million from Medicaid and Medicare—he should advocate for the harshest penalties against Florida GOP Senator and former governor Rick Scott, who was responsible for the largest Medicare fraud case in U.S. history!” HasanAbi remarked on social media.
The controversy stems from HasanAbi’s criticism of House Speaker Mike Johnson, arguing that if Johnson were genuinely committed to addressing Medicare fraud, he would take a firm stance against Scott’s past involvement in fraudulent activities. During Scott’s tenure as governor, his administration was linked to one of the most significant Medicare and Medicaid fraud cases ever recorded in the United States.
In addition to discussing Scott, HasanAbi also took a jab at conservative commentator Tim Pool, accusing him of defending the interests of the wealthy while ignoring corruption within right-wing politics. He labeled Pool a “bald partisan hack” and suggested that Pool consistently shields politicians who advocate for cuts to healthcare funding.
HasanAbi further mocked right-wing advocates of free speech, sarcastically pointing out their selective outrage. “A big shout-out to those ‘free speech defenders’ on the right who took time away from ranting about DEI and immigration to complain about my remarks!” he quipped.
The situation has ignited a broader discussion on social media about the limits of free speech on Twitch and how the platform moderates political content. While some supporters believe HasanAbi’s ban was unwarranted, others argue that his statements may have breached Twitch’s policies.
