Hasan Nawaz, the son of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President and former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, has been labeled a “deliberate tax defaulter” by the United Kingdom and fined £5.2 million. The UK government has added Hasan’s name to its official list of tax defaulters on its website.
According to the updated records, Hasan failed to pay approximately £9.4 million in taxes between April 5, 2015, and April 6, 2016. As a result, the UK tax authority imposed a significant penalty of £5.2 million, categorizing him as a deliberate defaulter.
This development follows reports from late last year that Hasan was declared bankrupt by the London High Court in a case involving tax liabilities filed by the UK government’s tax and revenue department. The official UK Gazette, which maintains public records, published details of the bankruptcy. It revealed that Hasan, a resident of Flat 17 Avenfield House, 118 Park Lane, and a company director, was declared bankrupt in the High Court of Justice under case number 694 of 2023, filed on August 25, 2023. The bankruptcy order was issued on April 29, 2024, following a case brought by creditors over unpaid dues.
The civil case was initiated by Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC) against Hasan, who was represented by Kaur Maxwell during the proceedings.
