Harrison Ford Pulls Out of Oscars After Shingles Diagnosis
Harrison Ford will not be attending the Academy Awards this Sunday due to a recent shingles diagnosis, according to multiple sources.
The legendary 82-year-old actor, famous for his roles in Indiana Jones and Star Wars, is reportedly recovering well following his diagnosis on Friday, as reported by Entertainment Weekly.
Shingles is a painful skin condition caused by the reactivation of the virus that leads to chickenpox. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) states that about one in three Americans will experience shingles at some point in their lives, with potential complications such as nerve pain or vision issues. While vaccination can help prevent the illness, it remains uncertain whether Ford had received the vaccine.
Originally set to present an award at the Oscars, Ford will now miss the event due to his condition. The veteran actor has been a frequent presence at the Academy Awards throughout his career, including his 1986 Best Actor nomination for Witness.
Just a week ago, Ford made waves online after a lighthearted moment at the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards. During co-star Jessica Williamsβ speech, cameras caught him casually munching on a cracker, unaware he was on-screen. The clip quickly went viral, with Williams playfully acknowledging the moment later.
Ford has a history of making memorable appearances at award shows. At the 2023 Oscars, he shared a touching onstage reunion with Ke Huy Quan, his Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom co-star, who had just won Best Supporting Actor for Everything Everywhere All at Once. The heartfelt moment was one of the highlights of the evening, with Ford later presenting the Best Picture award.
