Gwadar Airport to Open on December 30
KARACHI: The New Gwadar International Airport is set to open on December 30, marking a major step forward in the region’s infrastructure development, according to sources. This decision follows directives from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) will operate the first commercial flight from the airport, enhancing regional connectivity. Final preparations are underway, with a recent five-hour meeting between PIA and the Airports Authority to finalize key operational aspects.
PIA will soon deploy staff and essential equipment, including check-in systems, to ensure smooth operations from the start. The airport, which was built with a $246 million Chinese investment, is expected to boost trade and tourism in the region. Additionally, PIA will be exempt from fees during the first year to help ensure operational stability.
With a large runway and modern terminal, the airport can accommodate all types of large aircraft. It is anticipated to play a crucial role in enhancing trade and economic growth in the region, establishing Gwadar as a central hub for commerce and connectivity.
