PTI Condemns Govt for Blocking Imran Khan’s Meetings, Calls for Judicial Intervention
PESHAWAR:
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has strongly condemned the government’s restrictions on meetings with its imprisoned founding chairman, Imran Khan, and urged the judiciary to intervene.
Speaking at a press conference at the party’s information cell, PTI Secretary of Information Sheikh Waqas Akram criticized the authorities for allegedly defying court orders by preventing access to Imran Khan. He warned that if the situation continued, the party would be left with no option but to launch protests.
“The law grants the right to meet Imran Khan, yet under government directives, jail officials are blocking access,” Akram stated.
He pointed out that despite legal rulings allowing Imran’s lawyers, political associates, and family members to visit him, the government remained firm in its refusal.
The PTI leader further alleged that Imran Khan was being held in solitary confinement in a death cell and that even securing court orders did not guarantee visitation rights.
“Despite clear contempt of court, his political allies and family have been denied access. Even the chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has not been allowed to meet him,” he added.
Expressing concerns over Imran Khan’s legal rights, he questioned how the former prime minister was expected to prepare for his numerous legal battles without access to his legal team. He accused authorities of deliberately obstructing justice, even preventing Imran from receiving books.
“His meetings with his wife have been postponed twice, and his children have not been permitted to see him, despite court directives,” Akram noted. PTI has filed a contempt of court petition, demanding judicial action to ensure compliance with legal provisions.
Additionally, Akram criticized the federal government’s Ramazan relief package, calling the distribution of Rs5,000 per family inadequate given the soaring inflation.
