Govt Sets September 2025 Deadline for Civil Servants’ Asset Declaration, Assures IMF on Tax Shortfall
ISLAMABAD:
The federal government has mandated that all civil servants declare their assets by September 2025, with a dedicated digital portal set to be introduced for the process.
At the same time, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has assured the International Monetary Fund (IMF) that it will address the Rs605 billion tax shortfall without resorting to a mini-budget.
According to insider reports, discussions between Pakistan and the IMF regarding the next tranche of the loan program are ongoing. Representatives from the IMF, FBR, and the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) participated in a meeting held recently.
During the discussions, the FBR presented its tax collection strategy, reaffirming that the revenue gap will be managed without imposing additional taxes through a mini-budget.
Both sides have reportedly agreed that no mini-budget will be introduced. Instead, the government expects to generate Rs157 billion through a super tax. Additionally, efforts will be made to expedite pending tax-related cases in courts. The chief justice has approved a request to prioritize these cases to facilitate a quicker resolution, with full government cooperation.
The plan also includes fast-tracking tax cases through judicial proceedings, with support from the Prime Minister’s Office to ensure smooth implementation.
Furthermore, sources revealed that the government has set a September deadline for civil servants to disclose their assets, aligning with IMF requirements. A digital portal will be launched to streamline the process and enhance transparency.
