Government Guarantees No Sugar Price Increase During Ramadan

Minister for Industries and Production, Rana Tanveer Hussain, has assured that sugar prices will remain stable during Ramadan, as reported by Radio Pakistan.

During a meeting held in Islamabad on Friday to review sugar prices, Hussain emphasized that it is the government’s duty to provide relief to consumers during the holy month.

He mentioned that sugar mill owners have been given a week to consult on pricing matters, with the final rates set to be announced on Thursday.

The minister also stated that farmers should share in the profits, and that sugar millers must address the financial and production challenges faced by agricultural workers.

Earlier this week, the Utility Stores Corporation (USC) raised the price of sugar by Rs5 per kilogram. Reports indicate that the new price at Utility Stores has increased from Rs140 to Rs145 per kilogram.

This price hike was implemented due to rising costs in the open market. However, even after the increase, sugar at Utility Stores remains more affordable than in the open market.
