The government has declared a three-day public holiday for Eidul Fitr, spanning from March 31 to April 2, 2025. This announcement was made official through a notification issued by the Cabinet Division on Wednesday. The notification stated, βThe prime minister has approved March 31 to April 2, 2025 (Monday to Wednesday) as public holidays in observance of Eidul Fitr.β
The exact date of Eidul Fitr celebrations will depend on the sighting of the Shawwal moon. The Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee, along with its zonal committees, will meet on the evening of March 30 (Sunday) to determine the sighting of the Shawwal moon, which signifies the end of Ramazan.
According to a March 7 notification from the Pakistan Meteorological Department, there is a strong possibility of the Shawwal 1446 AH moon being sighted on the evening of March 30. However, last month, the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) predicted that Ramazan would begin on March 2, with Eidul Fitr likely to fall on March 31.
Eidul Fitr is one of the most important festivals in the Islamic calendar, celebrated by Muslims worldwide to mark the end of Ramazan, a month of fasting and spiritual reflection. The festivities symbolize the conclusion of this period of self-discipline and devotion.
In preparation for the holiday, Pakistan Railways announced earlier this week that it will operate four special trains to accommodate passengers traveling before and after Eidul Fitr. These special trains will run on the Quetta to Peshawar route, with stops at Sibbi, Sukkur/Rohri, Khanewal, Lahore, and Rawalpindi, ensuring smoother travel for those celebrating the occasion.
