George Clooney Opens Up About Age Gap with Amal Clooney
George Clooney and his wife, Amal Clooney, have never let their age difference affect their strong bond.
While the Hollywood icon has long captivated audiences, he wasn’t entirely confident about his chances when he first met the accomplished human rights lawyer in 2013.
In a recent interview with The New York Times (published Feb. 20), the 63-year-old actor admitted he initially thought their 17-year age gap might be a dealbreaker.
“I didn’t really think I stood a chance with her,” Clooney shared. “She was younger and had everything she needed in life.”
However, destiny had other plans. The two married in 2014 and later welcomed twins, Alexander and Ella, in 2017. Now, as he watches his children grow, Clooney is increasingly aware of the passage of time.
“When I turned 60, I had a conversation with Amal,” he explained. “I told her, ‘Right now, I can still play basketball, run around, and do most of what I did at 30. But in 30 years, I’ll be 90.’”
Despite his active lifestyle, the Ocean’s Eleven star acknowledged that aging brings limitations. “At that point, no matter how many granola bars you eat, there are things you just won’t be able to do,” he joked.
This realization has made him even more determined to embrace the present.
“I told Amal, ‘We need to focus on the next 20 to 25 years, making sure we experience as much as we can,’” he said. “Because in the end, no one looks back and wishes they had worked more.”
For Amal, finding a balance between their careers and family life has been essential.
“We both try to work from home as much as possible and limit the time we spend apart when traveling,” she shared with E! News in September. “So, we pretty much follow each other around the world. We’re very lucky.”
